A reminder for myself and my sons that you cannot - MUST not - stand in one spot too long. Do not become complacent with adequacy, nor be satisfied with just getting by when you have more to achieve and SO much more to offer. Do not fear... you must begin.

Another year around the sun completed
Heartache and grief didn't kill me.
This Covid19 thingy is out there, so time will tell; 'til then, still ticking.
Elusive employers & a lack of interviews hasn't kept me from breathing.
Driving alongside absolute idiots in cars on I-75 daily - still here.
Last May's heart episode - and subsequent double concussion - HA!
Shed pounds; found more; lost others; holding my own.
Survived the horror of a would-be Quality Engineer. Buh-bye.
The morning is evaporating quickly, so I must get up and move on with this day. Even though I will still be here when it is finished, the time will be lost.

Happy Birthday to Maria!
I put it away, kept it safe, and then promptly lost track of time.
No excuses, just me being me. I love you no less, and think of you often. Hope you are well, improving and healthy, and have no setbacks or sadness.
Be happy, beautiful friend, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

25
Believe me when I say that I have been watching this one every step - every eyelash flutter - of the way, and I still have a hard time believing it.
When Brian turned twenty-five I felt it. For some reason it seemed 'right', and it was believable - and perhaps I was more in tune and accepting of the march of time. But Karl hitting this milestone seems incorrect somehow. Maybe it's the Asperger's that has me incredulous. It's deceiving.
At any rate, it has happened - happy 25th birthday my little bug! I have loved every minute of it.

Hello, again
Heh heh...television humor.
The big news of the week is of course - Brian's 27th birthday! 27! :vO His birthday gift to me was a haircut (his, not mine), and my gift to him was a beautiful pair of woolen socks to wear with his kilt. Hey, those bad boys are hard to come by, and are expensive. Karl bought him a large bottle of clove-infused mead after having tried it at the Renfest. Happy birthday, Brian!
School is progressing about as you'd expect. Comp I for me is going well; for Karl, it's a bit more challenging - but he seems to have a good instructor. Mr. Quincy is (so far) diligent in responding to email, and genuinely seems to care that I want Karl to succeed, and is willing to help through open communication and getting copies of notes from class to K. [insert excited, happy face here]
On the other hand, Web Design is really kicking my keester. It doesn't help that my retrograde PC (and it's outdated IE program - which I can't upgrade past IE9 in order to do the work at home) is conspiring against me. Today I will head into the lab for a couple of hours to avail myself of the tutor and the working program there. [this calls for a cheer and an "oh, crap"]
Maria is enrolled in four classes this semester - GOOD ON YA, M! I would be too, but I waited too late. Although, it's probably a good thing I get my feet wet and ease back into this sort of school work. It's not like Specs was....not by a long shot. This is REAL work, eh? I am proud of you, Maria, keep up the good work!!
Jean is now in her second year of that radiology program (YEA!), and seems to be taking more of it in stride - I think. She is a wonder, because it's a lot of work and practicum on top of it! Plus, she's working one to two days (l o n g days) per week in a radiology facility on top of it! I know it's stretching you thin, lady, but you are a champ!
Mom is mending well, the issues with swelling and pain are subsiding. It's a good thing! Thank you, Lord. And, she still has PBS on her rabbit-eared TV, so is happier than not. It's not the same as seeing some regular network programming and her favorite "Wheel" and "Jeopardy" shows, but PBS is great when that's all there is. And that's WAY better than the alternative "reality TV" BS now offered 70% of the time on the other four channels (which she can't see).
As for me, well...I am the slacker in the group, I suppose. I am teaching somewhere in the neighborhood of two classes a week (the ones that don't cancel due to low enrollment), and taking my own piddily two classes. Pfft. Yes, still sewing when I get a moment here and there, just not enough of those moments any more.
OK, so enough of this for a bit. I need to get cleaned up and ready to meet with the tutor. I'm gonna learn me some web designin'. Hooo-doggies!

One active day
In the early evening, Barb and Jean stopped by - armed with ice cream cake! - to celebrate another year of maturity for Karl and Barb. We ordered LL pizza and relaxed and chatted.
Later, Barb kindly reviewed Karl's last math test and spoke with him about it. I am not certain if she was able to identify his more difficult hiccup, but I think she helped him to clearly understand it is within his power to turn the ship around before the end of the semester.
Thank you, Barb!
The evening fell and the humidity rose, so I gave up hope of any quality quilting time...opting to finish up the dishes in the sink and then laze on the sofa, sorting old paperwork and waiting for the evening news just for the weather forecast. Well, I fell asleep and missed it completely!
Now, I've dragged myself upstairs, washed up for bed and am ready to crash mightily.
Have a good night, all. See you tomorrow ~

So it's June, is it?
Oh, it's not because he too has passed, but because he chooses to not recognise me as his daughter. Consequently, I don't have a father to send cards to and mark holidays and milestones with any longer.
His choice.
His loss.
I do believe I have a new friend or two celebrating a birthday today, so I will instead focus my thoughts and best wishes in their direction - that oughtta fill the void.
And if that doesn't work, I can always keep cleaning. The cats have seen fit this morning to keep my day full of activity and mess. God bless 'em. It began with Flop spewing upstairs. I was awakened by the undeniable gurking sounds of a feline making hairball pudding.
After cleaning mess one; parts one and two, I was reminded that feeding was the next order of the day - and why hadn't I gotten to it, yet? Loud insistent meowing (Hobbes-style - she knows one word) drove me to the kitchen, where cat food was distributed to the hungry throng.
Having completed that chore, I followed my 'downstairs nose' to the cat box. Someone had tinkled over the edge (per usual, at least one time per week), and most of a bladderful load of urine sat precariously in the fold of the liner's edge. Deftly, I sopped up most of it with a paper towel before carefully rolling the bag liner up and over into itself, finding -- you guessed it....another bladder of pee on the other side!
This explained the odor that usually doesn't live in the house.
New liner installed and fresh litter in place, I felt disaster had been averted.
Walking away to wash my hands I was met by a sweetly curious Cleo, who was making her way quickly to the bathroom. I felt good about treating her to the first use of a fresh litter box. She had beaten the other two to first use privileges!
Mounting the stairs I heard a curious (and bone-chilling sound). I turned on my heals and rushed to see Cleo standing in the box but too close to the side, and she wasn't squatting to urinate. Yup. She was now a fuzzy fountain, shooting a healthy stream of endless cat pee over the edge and onto the dry floor!!!
Back to the drawing board and paper towel (and bleach). Apparently she had held her bladder since 1979, because there were flood level waters there to clean.
So....Happy Birthday to all of you June first-ers out there. You go have fun, I'll man the cat box for the day.

Happy birthday to my lovely friend, MARIA!
Maria and I met several years ago while we attempted to infuse our later years with more learning, and a chance at starting our lives (and flagging careers) anew. She has been such an inspiration and a joyful addition to my meager collection of friends.
God has truly blessed me with such a lovely woman, and I hope to be more like her as the years pass.
Happy, HAPPY birthday, Maria!!

Happy belated barfday to me
Hooray! Thank you, Flop....best gift ever!
She made up for it in spades this morning, though.
A no-warning, instantaneous, steamy pile of stomach contents delivered directly into (and on top of) my clean white Keds....and on the textured door mat. A gloopy pile of ook that Hobbes is now trying to sniff out.
There goes breakfast!
I guess I know who may be hungry in a little while.
Sheesh.

It's my little brother's birthday, again

One of us is getting older, Andy [finger's pointing at you - little booger in the middle], and one of us is getting better.
How's 50 feeling today?

A birthday riddle
That's right....Grandma's 101st birthday!
The place has been rocking all day, either with phone calls or visitors.
Non-stop I tell ya! Sometimes the phone rings while there are visitors here, and then the old gal doesn't know which way to turn. When the visits include children it's impossible for her to hear the caller for all of the noise, so the conversation is almost worthless. Still, for all of her protesting, she is having fun.
I can only imagine how much more of this will carry forward to tomorrow! She'll need the next 363 days to recover for her 102nd!
Happy birthday, Gram!

Happy birthday, K-dub! Glad you're here on the planet with me.

Happy Birthday, Maria!
Happy, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope the day is as perfect as you are!

Changes
When you open your email, there is always a note from a friend to start your day, or to remind you that you aren't alone or forgotten.
I had this. I had become used to a phone call from one of my uncles on my birthday. I don't know what prompted him to begin this tradition, nor do I know if he held this kind gesture out for other cousins, or for my brothers....I only know that in recent years I began to wait for the phone to ring each passing year just for that call.
Psychologically I believe I have come to depend upon this due to a severe lack of trustworthy and decent men in my life - but that my be over analyzing it a bit. Not that I thought of him as a father-figure, but just a dependable male soul who cared. Not because he had to, but because he wanted to.
When I was but grade school age he also imparted boy advice and counseling. When there were boy-troubles on the playground I could always go to him and ask, "Why do boys do that?" (whatever it was), and he would always tell me the truth (as unbelievable as it was) and give me advice on how to handle it.
Life changes; people change, too. He'd had changes in his life which kept him from calling on the day last year....but the day after, there he was! We had a nice chat and caught up on everything as usual, and life was good.
It's always the simple things, right?
Well, this year, there was no call. Not from him, anyway, but from an aunt who somehow filled that void and reached out. We chatted for about three hours, and God bless her for not falling asleep, but I could tell a time or three that her other responsibilities were tugging at her, so we said our goodbyes and let life roll on.
A dear friend texted me on the day, and I had other greetings and well wishes from friends and fleeting co-workers.
I received several cards in the mail, mainly from aunts, and of course, my mom - and one surprise card from a cousin in CA!
Much later in the day, mom and I finally got the chance to talk before she left for work (since I had my cell phone off and charging early in the morning), and the boys and another dear friend supplied me with cake and a tasty meal!
All-in-all, it was a nice birthday, so can someone please tell me why is it that I still miss that particular uncle phone call?

Happy birthday.........to ME!

Happy Birthday, my blonde baby!
I am so proud of you, Bud, and you have so much more ahead of you to accomplish. Take your time and be happy.
You know what Great Gram would say....."25, eh? That's a nice start. See you at 100!"
I love you!
